Vigan City Fiesta Celebration in the New Normal

Part and parcel of the Filipino culture are the festivals being celebrated in every town. One of the most popular ones is the Vigan Town Fiesta observed during January 25, in honor of St. Paul the Apostle.

The Covid-19 pandemic has greatly changed the Province’s (Vigan City) festival celebration.  We used to have huge crowds and many people from around the province come to attend the said festival and enjoy seeing and watching the different activities scheduled and enjoy bonding together over food and drinks-but this was before the pandemic.

Now, with the spread and health threat imposed by the covid-19, this usual practice has changed and we have to adopt to the new normal. The Governor decided to conduct the Vigan Fiesta Celebration despite the pandemic to promote its cultural heritage.  Many activities were done, including the Ms. Saniata and the showcase of each town’s product from around the province.  Despite the challenges and health threat of the pandemic, the activity was a successful one.  Health protocols were strictly implemented and the people of Ilocos Sur has a very good response for they cooperated well with those health protocols. Peace and order was also maintained.

Also with the use of internet, some activities were also televised, making the Vigan ity Fiesta celebration, not only local but international, because even those Ilocanos from other countries can watch and participate with the celebration.  So, even with this pandemic, the Provincial Government did not stop from aiming its goal which is to promote the cultural heritage of Vigan City.
